EXERCISE
Motion Graphic Exercise
INDIVIDUAL TASK (06.01.2022)

Fig 1.2 The surprising effects of
pregnancy by Ted-Ed
✧ The motion graphics are lively & uses vibrant
colours which contributes to the friendliness. I think it
was a brilliant idea to turn the "immune system" into a
guard station, it was an out of the box way of potryaing the
organ & it flows well with the audio. The art style
reminds me of the earlier animations of PowerPuffGirls. It
was also fun that the creators created characters out of the
organs & hormones. The way the audio was delivered also
gave a refreshing point of view of the topic.
Fig 1.3 You could have a secret twin (but not the way you think) -
Kayla Mandel Sheets by Ted-Ed
✧ The minimalistic character & frame designs were
good, the usage of brilliant colours for characters & a
dull colour for the background helps the characters to stand
out and trains the eyes to focus on the characters. The
transition was smooth and very well done. I especially like
all the zoom ins, slide ins, pop up transitions, whilst the
characters also have slight movement in them to make them
look more believable.

Project 02 (06.01.2022)
✧ We were given 2 chapters to choose from, my group
chose:
Fig 2.1 Topic chosen
✧ This part of the exercise is to brainstorm as well
as propose ideas for how we are to go forward with the art
style. From the video links gathered as a group, we realised
most of the reference videos are of a lineless and colourful
graphics, hence we decided to go with that route.

✧ We divided each sub-topic amongst our team as shown
in Fig 2.6.
Rough Storyboard (25.01.2022)
✧ I was in charge of the sub-topic:
Pregnancy.
✧ I went with a more friendly approach when
illustrating the egg & sperm. I also want it to look
like these characters are long lost friends and hug (to
form the fertilisation process)

Storyboard Animatic(03.02.2022)
✧ For this portion of our task, we were to
create a rough animatic so the lecturers are aware of
where the direction is.

Digitalisation(10.02.2022)
✧ We split our group task to 3:3 ; 3
illustrators & 3 animators.
✧ I was in charge of creating all human-related
vectors.
✧ The original colour we used in the "Sensitive Scenes
PPT" as shown in Fig 2.5 did not suit the final male design.
Our team decided to vote on the colour options.
Fig 5.3 Consulted Ms Anis
✧ We consulted Ms Anis about our colour choices, &
settled with the light blue shade for the male design.

✧ The male design on the left did not appear as cheeky
as I'd like, so we decided to change it to the design on the
right (final)

FEEDBACK
Week 03: Sex Ed Script breakdown review
Lecturer's Feedback:
✧ Very detailed script breakdown that could have been broken down sentence by sentence for a much better insight
Week 07: Sex Ed Animatics review
Lecturer's Feedback:
✧ Mr Martin mentioned our work was very detailed
but could have been broken down sentence by sentence
by listening to the audio.
REFLECTIONS
Overall, we worked well as a group. There were not many
errors that we could not solve together. The communication
and collaboration process was smooth, whenever we have any
doubts we would always refer back to our groupmates for
advice. Personally, I did not have much trouble carrying
out my part of the project. Things I've picked up in this
project: Make sure file is in RGB // Make sure everything
is in separated layers so the animators can easily
animate. Because we've decided on a colour scheme and art
direction, there were no issues on the vectorisation
portion, though we have issues of some vectors becoming
blurry when put into Ae (issue resolved). As this is a short semester, we were all struggling to juggle our time between this project and the Intercultural project, through there is a slight delay in our final product, we managed to finish it on time and with the results we are all satisfied with! Big Kudoos to our animators whom I could tell put a lot of effort into bring the vectors to live. Very good job to everyone on the team!
