INSTRUCTIONS

EXERCISE

✧ We were not given the luxury of being able to travel overseas to conduct this data collection portion of our project, and instead, we resolved to Netnography

✧ Through this data collection, we are to analyse relevant information obtained & summarise them so we can see how to incorporate into Project 03

✧ Our group decided to conduct 2 sorts of data collection:
1. A general survey to get to know more about what the public thinks of the chosen culture
2. An interview with a member of the Mexican community

General Survey
Medium: Google forms

✧ We brainstormed & came up with topics we will like to conduct the survey on: Day of the dead culture, La Catrina, Interactive Poster, Virtual Game Card & Augment reality (AR). Zetie created the google forms while all of us gave input in the questions. We then proceeded to spread the word via Instagram. Yeanne Tung posted on a Facebook survey group to help get more responses. I posted on my art Instagram account to help get a more globalised view on the Day of the Dead culture. The findings are as recorded in the full deck of our data collection presentation.

Interview
Medium: Google forms

✧ Mr Azrizal mentioned it will be great if we could score an interview with an individual from the culture itself. Which lead to me searching for an interview candidate.

✧ I once worked with a Mexican American Instagram shop owner, who later on agreed to be part of our project!

✧ However, due to the time difference and availability, we've decided to compile our questions into google forms for Erica to fill up her responses.

Project Idea Progressions

✧ During our meeting, we've split our members for the 3 ideas into groups of 2 to carry out the workload. Yeanne Tung & I worked together to create the Virtual Game Cards. I was in charge of creating the back cards with the elements taken from the culture, while Yeanne Tung did the front part.

REFLECTIONS

The pandemic left us only one choice of research: netnography, hence we did our data collections via google forms to better understand our target audiences and what are their preferences. When talked about having an insider's view in our project amongst our group, I was reminded of an acquaintance of mine, Erica. I was overjoyed when she agreed to the interview. This part of the project teaches us that surveys are important and it helps to create a better direction for us.
