Grid System
✧ Whilst in class, we did 3 grid systems to see how our text would flow.
Fig 2.1 Draft Grid Systems
✧ After testing the grids out, I didn't really like them and explored more. I finally settled with Fig 2.2's grid system and used it for the book.

Draft Book Layout
✧ We first did a rough draft layout in class without any references.
✧ For this in class task, it was actually the time that we just finished with the form and movement exercise, using that as a guide I navigate this draft book layout and created the 1st draft.

Layout Reference
✧ The flowing of words from page 1 to page 2 is something I'd like to implement in my book layout (refer to Fig 4.1).
✧ I think Fig 4.2's layout is one that is interesting but also it places the focal point on the visual element but also shows a balanced text placement.

3rd Attempt of Book Layout
✧ Sir suggested I try another cover to see how it might look more interesting. The 2nd spread's image should be adjusted to be on the blue page instead.

FEEDBACK
Week 05
General Feedback
✧ Do research n see if can make another layout
✧ Do not sit on the layouts for too long, do not fix it for too long, look at it ar the thumbnail size to see the flow, info are divided and how it looks like, details later, now we are figuring out the AS of the book. Fix it, shelf it, do not spend more time. The new one try not to look too much like the DRAFt version. have 2 VERSIONS
Specific Feedback
✧ keep the headlines the same as all the other ones I’ve done: (introduction/ chapter name). Need to be aware of the extra spacing, eg: “…” could be changed to “…?” Instead. Font size could explore more
Layout draft comments:
✧ title word remove, publisher go down
✧ Add diff sets of paragraph spacing on imprints
✧ Reduce the image or allow more reading room
intro: Delete the cam image below the text or the image can b bigger n caption go the other side with text
✧ Need to remove imprint n add content wording
✧ Consistency needs b implemented with all headlines
✧ Column need to main the same (chap 1) currently underwhelming to placed 2 images tat
✧ Layout intro (1 & 2) needs more working, last image is good
✧ Intro 1 need to create impact, heading on double spread, opening image can be an image n title, a single page where image is large.
Week 06
General Feedback
✧ 32 pages minimum, this excludes cover page
✧ Remember: pages shall be by 4
✧ Black & White test print as mockup to check typesetting
Specific Feedback
✧ Page 1 & 2 same line, push pg 1 higher to the line
✧ Line length seems ok, Paragraph spacing seems concern
✧ Content needs to have the same title heading as all the others use same style
✧ Dummy page numbers for content page
✧ Intro: take out white box or not at all (more edgier look) alternatively
✧ Images are more dynamic when cropped looks interesting
Week 07
General Feedback
✧ Printing thumbnails out in colour helps to determine the text flow as well as to check if the colours flows well together
Specific Feedback
✧ Cover needs changing, could try cropping the image, play around with positioning to create a more impressing visual. Try other visuals to see if it looks good as the cover. Sir suggested the ocean picture. Title typo needs reworking
✧ Page 2’s image clashes with the blank blue page, will amend it by replacing the black blue page with the image.
✧ Take out the first capital letter of every chapter as it does not align with the Morden feel
✧ Subtext align better, same as the others so it can have more consistency
REFLECTIONS
Experience
The obstacle of this task was crafting the visuals at a limited timing. There is also the matter of font size readability which we need to take into consideration when putting everything together. I've also noticed that we would need to print it out in order to ascertain if the font size is too big or too small. Sir also reminded us to keep in mind to not have orphans, rivers in our text formations. Publishing a book needs a solid and strong foundation.
Observations
There has to be variations but also keeping in mind that consistency is key. A book cover gives a glimpse of what the book is really about to the audience. The form and movement task really helped in terms of maintaining the balance in between variation and consistency.
Findings
If there is time, it would be better to get it printed when the student is there. I've went to 5 shops asking if they print the size that we have and most of them said no. There was one shop in which i spent 5 hours in but didn't end up printing at as they told me my format was wrong ( I reckon it might be because they are a more classic shop... and dont know how to actually print it...?) In the end I've asked my friend to help me print it.
