Final Project: Merchandising

✧ This is a continuous project with Project 02
✧ The final chosen packaging design was by Yi Qing. Which is also the design we are moving forward for this project, which was to create merchandise and make the whole project look realistic.

Merchandise Ideation
✧ The requirement was to create 4 merchandise & 1 Pop display.
✧ However, we're faced with an obstacle, as our product is a frozen product. We're not able to create a Pop Display as it is a display that is outside of the freezer, and might damage the frozen food.
✧ Since the chosen design was Yi Qing's, we've collectively decided that she will be in charge of compiling all the merchandise in a slide.
✧ Instead, we settled with creating 4 merchandise, which were:
            ✧ X Banner (Shu Huan)
            ✧ Freezer (Ellyn)
            ✧ Lunch Box Tupperware (Myself)
            ✧ Freezer Bag (Ivy)

Lunch Box Attempt
✧ I first started out with searching for a mockup.
✧ This lunch box mockup was from Freepick, the funny thing was, when I downloaded it, it was in a free stage. However a few days later, I went back to check and this mockup has became a Premium only mockup. I was super grateful i downloaded it earlier.

✧ I first started out with tidying up the pattern which will go behind the product.
✧ Pattern was made in Ai's pattern making function

✧ Using back the same rounded edge rectangular shape as the lunch box, I create a draft idea based on the packaging design in Ai

First Merchandise Consultation
✧ We've showcased 4 of our products to Sir
Fig 3.1 Merchandise Consultation #1
✧ Sir mentioned that the X Banner & the freezer is considered one display item, hence we were needed to add 2 more merchandising items into our list

✧ After a brainstorming session with the group, We've decided to add 2 more items into the list.

✧ In total, these are our merchs and who was in charged of which:
            ✧ X Banner (Shu Huan)
            ✧ Freezer (Ellyn)
            ✧ Lunch Box Tupperware (Myself)
            ✧ Freezer Bag (Ivy)
            ✧ Plate (Yi Qing)
            ✧ Wet Wipes (Ivy)

✧ We thought the wet wipes would be a good addition as the product is an oily one, so wet wipes would come in handy!

Our Group was Chosen as the Final design!
✧ Out of the 3 groups working on the same food product, our group was chosen!
✧ We were then required to come up with an A0 size poster, which Ellyn & Shu Huan took charged in working on them.

✧ The girls had came up with the poster design
✧ I've amended the copy to make it sound smoother:
"Off to curb your sugar cravings with a bite-sized snack! Chewy on the inside, delicious banana blossom fillings in the centre with a slight crisp on the outside. The perfect treat for an afternoon snack for all ages!"

FEEDBACK

✧ Sir liked our designs and pointed out that we were missing a Pop Display. We informed him that our product was a frozen food hence it is not feasible.
✧ Sir also mentioned that the X Banner & Freezer display goes hand in hand as one display, he suggested we come up with 2 more merchandise
✧ After our group was chosen to be the final design, we consulted sir about what our next step was. We were informed to create a poster for the Food Science Student's booth.

REFLECTIONS

Experience
This is the last task of this module, and some how this is the easiest task. As we've already prepared and done most of the workload in Project 2! This merchandise took me less than an hour to work on it, which was considerably fast!

Observations
Throughout this course, I've learnt to be more observant. I now go to shops not only looking at packaging on an eye level or glancing at them, I now have made a habit of touching the products and feeling the material it was made out of. How thick the paper used was, how is the material durable, what made the material shine, etc.

Findings
Packaging is something we see daily, and through this, I've learnt to think of the mechanics behind a packaging. The right material used, the items placed on the design, why it was made into the certain shape it is, how it can help to hold or store the item well without it going bad.
